💛 Thinking of Booking a Newborn Session with Tiny Feet Photography? You're in the right place! Here’s a little guide on what to expect during your newborn photography session, plus some tips to help keep your baby happy, sleepy, and comfortable throughout. Don’t worry — I’ll keep it short and sweet, because I know you're either looking after a tiny human or preparing to. 😉
📦 Do I Need to Bring Outfits or Props? No need! I’ve got a beautiful collection of newborn wraps, outfits, bonnets, and props ready for your session. Each session is thoughtfully styled based on the pre-session questionnaire you’ll complete after booking. If you have something special you’d like included — a family heirloom, a handmade blanket, or a tiny outfit — just let me know in advance!
👧 Can My Older Children Be in the Photos? Absolutely — sibling and family images are some of my favourites to capture! I usually photograph siblings and family portraits at the beginning of the session, then suggest that Dad, Grandma, or a carer take the older kids to a park, play café, or for a little outing so we can focus on baby for the rest of the session in a calm environment.
👕 What Should Parents Wear? Keep it simple and neutral. Soft tones like white, creams a beige photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your connection with your baby.
Mums: Go for classic tanks or t-shirts in neutral tones. Keep patterns minimal and nails natural or neutral-coloured.
Dads: A fitted white tee (or shirtless if you're comfortable!) and well-fitting jeans are perfect.
I use soft, flattering angles and close-up crops that are gentle on post-baby body confidence 💛
👧👦 Sibling Outfit Tips Coordinating outfits help create timeless images:
Sisters: Neutral-coloured dress or top, natural hair or simple braids, and clean, polish-free nails.
Brothers: Fitted jeans and a plain white t-shirt or shirtless for younger boys.
🍼 Will You Use a Dummy/Pacifier? Yes, I do recommend having a dummy or pacifier on hand, even if your baby doesn’t usually use one. It’s helpful for soothing during posing transitions and is used briefly if needed. I also have a selection of sterilised pacifiers available in the studio if you forget yours.
😴 LET’S GET TO THE SLEEPY TIPS:🔥 Keep Baby WarmThe studio is kept toasty warm — just like the cozy environment they’ve been used to. Most babies are undressed for a good portion of the session, so warmth is key to keeping them sleepy and settled. Parents: Dress in layers so you can stay comfortable too!
🎯 Engage Baby Before You ArriveA bit of awake time before the session helps baby sleep more soundly during the shoot. Try a warm sponge bath or a little play time with Dad (peek-a-boo works wonders!). Afterward, dress baby in a loose diaper and zip-up onesie — avoid anything that needs to go over the head to prevent waking baby.
🍼 Feeding TipsIf you're bottle-feeding, please bring extra formula and bottles — we often stop for top-ups during the session. If you’re breastfeeding, feel free to feed on demand as needed. A full belly = a sleepy baby, and that’s exactly what we want!
💆♀️ Relax — You’re in Safe HandsSit back and enjoy a moment of quiet. I’ve calmed and photographed many babies, and I absolutely adore newborn snuggles. You’re welcome to watch or rest — I’ll let you know if I need your help, especially for poses that require your support. Your baby’s safety is always my #1 priority.
What to Expect After Your Session 📸 In about 1–2 weeks, you'll receive a proofing gallery – an online selection of your session images where you can choose your favourites.
